REQUEST: practical PhD

Dear list members,

I have just read the EU Expert Report "Entrepreneurship in higher education, especially within non-business studies" (see  http://ec.europa.eu/enterprise/entrepreneurship/support_measures/training_education/). On page 31 they say: "Where appropriate (for instance at Master's level), exams - or even the thesis - could be replaced with work on projects, like a start-up project."

Does anyone of you know professors who enable and support PhD students to write a practice-oriented PhD in Entrepreneurship?

I am grateful for any hints.
