Postdoctoral Researcher(s)at the Centre for Innovation & Structural Change (CISC) National University of Ireland, Galway for the “Innovation Index Ireland” project
Closing Date: Friday 3rd March 2006

The Centre for Innovation & Structural Change has secured funding for the “Innovation Index Ireland” project, an ambitious multi-year effort to apply best practice information technologies to the analysis of Ireland’s innovation performance. The work programme includes the building of sophisticated database structures for new and existing data, both qualitative and quantitative, and generating credible academic research from such sources, as a complement to existing work in this area, for the benefit of academic, policy and wider community audiences. This is a multi-disciplinary effort, building on the evolving work of CISC

Applications are invited from persons who have completed or are very near to completion of a PhD, for up to two CISC Postdoctoral Researchers for four years working on this project. The project will require a mix of key skills, so that any or all of the following will be particularly advantageous to candidates; research in innovation, technological change at macro or micro level, substantially informed by economics, or other social sciences and/or business disciplines, specific experience in database and data management techniques and technologies, general IT skills, especially relating to database and networking technologies, and communications skills. It will also be advantageous for candidates to demonstrate previous associations with the preparation or delivery of funded research projects.

These positions are intended to provide a key leadership role in delivery of the Innovation Index Ireland project and this includes contributing directly to the delivery of this project, in close collaboration with colleagues and PhD students, through the publication of a quarterly report intended for a policy audience in Ireland and the publication of peer-reviewed research. Postdoctoral researchers will also be strongly encouraged to participate in the broader research programme of the Centre, and contribute to the preparation of research funding proposals.

These positions are full-time, located at CISC new facilities in the Cairnes Graduate School of Business and Public Policy at the National University of Ireland, Galway for a period of up to four years. The salary will be in the range of €35,500—€46500, depending on qualifications and experience. An early start date is preferable, ideally by April 2006

Informal enquiries about these positions may be made to Dr Aidan Kane, Director of CISC. Tel +353-91-492530 aidan.kane at nuigalway.ie
