REQUEST: Questions on Intervening Variables

I have a few questions that I have been pondering and need answers to finalize my proposal.

How do I test an intervening variable?
How do I prove that intervening variables exist?
How do I propose a hypothesis for an intervening variable?

If there is anyone on the list who has done research using intervening variables, please email me. I need your advice. Thank you
