CALL FOR PAPERS
ASIA PACIFIC SYMPOSIUM ON ENTREPRENEURSHIP & INNOVATION
NEW THINKING & PRACTICE
Sydney - Australia
1st - 3rd April 2009

The University of Sydney will present its first Asia Pacific Symposium
on Entrepreneurship & Innovation in April 2009. The theme of the
inaugural Symposium is "New thinking and practice."

The purpose of this Symposium is to involve academia, industry and
policymakers, in bringing together theory and practice on
entrepreneurship and innovation. Particular emphasis is placed on
international dimensions within the Asia Pacific region.

The Symposium is presented as a joint initiative of the International
Entrepreneurship Research Group in the Faculty of Economics and Business
and the United States Studies Centre. It involves academics,
practitioners and policymakers operating in the region, especially those
in Australia and the US.

Manuscripts are sought that challenge and advance existing theories and
perspectives on innovation and entrepreneurship. We are seeking academic
papers, industry perspectives and case studies.

TOPICS:

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

- Internationalisation of high-tech ventures;
- The role of the US as a lead market for innovation;
- Learning from the creative industries;
- The relationship between the entrepreneur and capital markets;
- Institutionalising entrepreneurial activity;
- Overcoming inhibitors to innovation within firms;
- Commercialisation and technology spin-offs;
- Reinvigorating corporate growth;
- New conceptualisations of the 'born global' firm;
- Economic implication of social entrepreneurship;
- Linking Australian innovation to the world;
- Adapting international innovation to Australia;
- Exporting and the entrepreneur; and
- Comparative systems and cultures of innovation, including relations
between university, government and business.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:

The conference will be held over three days and will comprise
presentations and discussions from both industry leaders and academic
experts in the field of entrepreneurship.

An evening welcome reception will be held on Wednesday, 1st of April.
Sessions will be held on Thursday, 2nd April from 9am to 5pm, with a
formal dinner in the University Great Hall in the evening for all
guests. Sessions will continue on Friday, 3rd April from 9am to 12pm.

PUBLICATION OPPORTUNITY:

Selected papers, case studies and perspectives will have the opportunity
of publication in the first volume of an annual series by Edward Elgar,
Cheltenham, U.K. Editors are Dr Richard Seymour and Dr Catherine Welch.

SYMPOSIUM REGISTRATION:

Registration fee: $350 (waived for successful submissions)
