International Journal of Foresight and Innovation Policy (IJFIP)
Call For Papers
Special Issue on: "Innovation Networks"
Deadline: 15 January 2007

Guest Editors:
Petra Ahrweiler, University of Hamburg, Germany
Andreas Pyka, University of Augsburg, Germany

Governing innovation, i.e. knowledge production, distribution and
exploitation, as the main resource of modern societies is a complex
policy task which has to take into account the various and sometimes
contradicting features of knowledge. Innovation networks are a principal
mode of co-ordination which are particularly relevant in knowledge-based
market sectors such as biotechnology and the ICT industries. The need
for knowledge creation and transfer within markets is one of the main
reasons for networking. Combining knowledge resources in networks
enables innovation and learning that are difficult to provide by other
means. Thus, markets are more than places where goods are bought and
sold within an institutional context: they are the arenas where
innovation takes place, where knowledge is generated, communicated,
re-combined and exchanged.

The aim of this special issue is to identify future research frameworks
to model and analyse knowledge generation and distribution processes in
innovation networks. Proposing sector-specific governance strategies can
be considered as an additional step which could result in a follow-up
issue.
