Dear Fanny:
This is not easy to judge without knowing the paper - but a narrow focus
generally would mean that the paper does not speak to broader audiences.
A result like this might come from submitting to a GENERAL management
journal but only investigating a question that is of interest for a
small community of researchers. There are basically two solutions:
- Broaden the focus by getting back to the drawing board and thinking
about how you could make your research relevant to more people.
- Alternatively, look for a journal that speaks to this narrow community.
The first approach comes with a lot of work, the second one is more
convenient but usually comes with the cost that you have to go for a
less reputable journal.
Best
Andreas
