JOB VACANCY Teaching and Research Associate
The Institute for SME-Management and Entrepreneurship at the Vienna University of Economics and Business is currently inviting applications for the position of Teaching and Research Associate (Univer-sitätsassistent/in prae doc) (employee is subject to the terms of the collective bargaining agreement for university staff), from 1 February 2016 to 31 January 2022:
Extent of employment: 30h/week
Minimum gross monthly salary for 30h/week: € 1.997,18 (eventual extra classroom teaching is remunerated separately)
Responsibilities:
taking part in the institute’s teaching and research, participating in research projects and in publishing results. coaching, supervising and coordinating students (e.g. bachelor theses, teaching and collaborating in classes, correcting exam papers).
The objective of the position is to achieve a PhD. degree. In line with the Institute’s research culture, applicants aiming for an academic career are preferred. In her/his research the successful applicant will deal with the management of SMEs. Regarding research and, above all, the doctoral thesis, applicants are preferred who are interested in family businesses and/or inter-company cooperation from a social-sciences perspective.
Required qualifications:
- Master’s or diploma degree in business administration/management/social sciences
- no already started dissertation program outside the research area of “SME Management”
- excellent oral and written German and English
- interest and profound knowledge in the research area “SME Management”
Desirable skills and qualifications:
- above-average analytical and conceptual skills
- above-average knowledge in statistics and/or qualitative methods
- experience in academic work (implementing research projects)

Please note that under the terms of the WU personnel development plan, the position of Teaching and Research Associate is limited to an employment period of not more than six years. Applicants who are already employed at WU as substitute employees can therefore only be employed for the time remaining to complete the six-year period. Persons who were already employed as a Teaching and Research Associate (Universitätsassistent/in prae doc), can only be employed as an Assistant Professor (Universitätsassistent post doc/ Universitätsassistentin post doc) in the tenure track.

The Institute for SME-Management and Entrepreneurship at Vienna University of Economics and Business is currently inviting applications for the position of Assistant Professor (Universitätsassistent/Universitatsassistentin post doc) (employee is subject to the terms of the collective bargaining agreement for university staff), from 1 February 2016 to 31 January 2022:
Extent of employment: 20h/week
Minimum gross monthly salary for 30h/week: € 1.773,- (eventual classroom teaching is remunerated separately)
Responsibilities:
taking part in the institute’s teaching and research, scientific work (theoretical and empirical) within the scope of the institute’s research program, participating in research projects and the autonomous con-ducting of research projects, taking part in publishing the results and autonomous work on publications and presentations, coaching, supervising and coordinating students (e.g. bachelor and master theses, teaching and collaborating in classes, correcting exam papers), teaching at bachelor’s and master’s level
The objective of this position is to achieve the venia docendi (habilitation). Thus, applicants have to strive for an academic career. In her/his research the successful applicant will deal with aspects of management of SMEs.
Required qualifications:
- completed doctoral or PhD degree in business administration/management/social sciences
- very good German- and English skills in speaking and writing
- focus on the research area “SME Management”
- knowledge in the area of “SME Management”
Desirable skills and qualifications:
- experience in the research area of “SME Management”
- profound knowledge in statistical methods and/or in qualitative methods
- experience in teaching
- experience in academic work (e.g. publishing research results, experiences in applying for research funding, experiences in implementing research projects)
