Information Communication Technology impact in the SME sector

The global economic crisis has placed massive pressure on the private sector to reduce costs and increase operational efficiency.  The significant contribution made by the small and medium sized enterprise (SME) community worldwide to employment, regional development and innovation is well established. 

Unfortunately, SMEs are characterised by high business rates failure. This statistic will undoubtedly deteriorate in the current global economic depression, and highlights the clear need to identify strategies which improve the potential for SME survival and growth. Innovative and effective information communication technology (ICT) deployment may provide the basis of such a strategy. 

This special issue focuses on how the SME is making effective use of ICT to increase efficiency and effectiveness and create strategic advantage.  It will also seek to present new research approaches and methodologies contributing to the understanding of this field. Specific topics may include, but are not limited to the following:

. ICT/IS/IT planning and management
. ICT usage to create strategic advantage
. E-business/E-Commerce and the Internet
. Knowledge management
. Approaches used in information systems and e-business development
. The integration of software and/or hardware technologies that provide holistic solutions to problems
. Mobile commerce and technology
. Delivering business value through ICT systems
. The management of information systems
. Perspectives on ICT/IS/IT evaluation
. Information technology/information systems and sustainability
. Social aspects of information systems
. Intranet applications
. Web site development and evaluation
. Enterprise applications
. Organisational issues and information systems
. IT and its impact on society
. The influence of politics and culture on systems development and the use of information technology
. Project management and ICT
. Strategic alliances and information systems
. Globalisation and the role of ICT

Submission guidelines
The deadline for submission of papers is no later than the 1st November 2010. Papers submitted must be original, and between 6,000 to 7,000 words in length and comply with submission guidelines. Suitable articles will be subjected to double blind peer review. The edition will appear as issue 2 of the 2011 volume. Copies should be submitted via email Word attachment (in one file including all figures and tables) to wpjones1 at glam.ac.uk in the first instance.
