Background and Special Issue Purpose
Research in strategy is at critical crossroads nowadays and there is an increased emphasis on new theoretical concepts and on testing empirical relationships rooted in such concepts. With the worldwide downturn of the economy, there is a need to effectively measure strategy and competitiveness. The outcome will critically depend on the conceptualization and measurement of these concepts and their derivative constructs. Thus, in spite of numerous discussions on alternate approaches to measure strategy, the relationship between theoretical definitions and their consequent dimensions has been generally weak. Most existing measures of strategy constructs are either nominal scales or multi-item scales none of which has been systematically evaluated especially in light of recent changes in the environment of businesses.
Further, businesses are facing many challenges, many of which are propelled by increasing competitiveness and for lack of identification of what accurately creates a firm's competitive advantage. This Special Issue invites conceptual and empirical papers dealing with cutting edge research on the subject of strategy and competitiveness. For this Special Issue research should focus on novel and creative ideas unto how the concepts are implemented effectively across business sectors and size; new theoretical perspectives and models, emerging methodologies, and new data analysis techniques which could capture this magnitude. This call is open to all industries including the tourism, shipping, manufacturing, healthcare, wellness, and knowledge intensive industries. In brief, this Special Issue of AIM Journal aims to keep score and evidence the state-of-the-art research as well as to promote the research accomplishment across sectors.
Topics of this special issue include, but are not limited to:
