The Business School is looking to appoint a Chair of Innovation to
strengthen its existing research concentration in innovation and
entrepreneurship, and support its engagement in the University's Science
City strategy. The Chair will be expected to take on research leadership
in an area which complements and fits within the school's existing
centre for Knowledge, Innovation, Technology and Enterprise (KITE), and
to play a central role in the management of the relationship between the
school and Science City, linking the school to other parts of the
University through a variety of mechanisms including a group of
professors of practice already appointed. This Chair and the Professors
of Practice have been funded initially by the Excellence Fund, a
strategic partnership between the University and the regional
development agency One NorthEast.
 
The post requires an experienced researcher with an established record
of research income and research management, publication at international
levels of quality, and experience of interdisciplinary collaboration and
linkage with business. The postholder will be expected to contribute to
teaching through the development of new programmes at masters and
executive level, but the primary emphasis will be on strategic
activities in research and business development.
 
Applicants may have expertise in any area of management and business
studies with relevance for innovation, knowledge transfer and
exploitation, or entrepreneurship. Of particular relevance would be
expertise in innovation management and innovation systems with
application in biotechnology, energy, healthcare, or engineering. It is
essential that applicants have experience of working in a business
school or related environment and can lead on the design of business
school research and teaching programmes.
