CONTEXT:
Enterprise and related research plays an important role both in terms of
the Faculty research agenda and the University's strategic direction.
The Enterprise Research and Development Unit (ERDU) is a focus for
research and development on small and medium enterprise development and
entrepreneurship. This includes policy, educational and business related
research. It is recognised as an innovative and grounded provider of
'realworld' solutions and insights to 'real-world' problems based on
rigorous research and close involvement of stakeholders. Additional
information on ERDU is provided. The Research Fellow role is a key one
in growing the range, impact and scale of research projects within the
Unit. The role provides an opportunity for an emerging researcher to
develop their career by contributing their expertise and taking
responsibility for innovative research projects, combining academic
research with practical project management skills. The candidate
appointed will be expected to demonstrate a track record of research and
scholarship which may have been gained in an academic, business or
public sector context, combined with genuine interest in a wide range of
issues related to enterprise and entrepreneurship, policy, learning,
business and management. There is scope for the postholder to develop
their own field of interest within enterprise and entrepreneurship, and
this would be actively supported by the other researchers. Whilst based
in the Lincoln Business School it is important that links are built and
maintained throughout the University.

Job Purpose
To take responsibility for initiating, developing and managing new and
existing research projects, and contributing to the research profile of
the Unit. The Research Fellow will be expected to take an active role in
the initiation, design and implementation of project work by undertaking
the full range of research and management activities in relation to
these projects.

The role includes interfacing with actual and potential client
organisations, including regional and subregional development agencies,
government departments, private sector and academic organisations. The
post holder will be expected to develop their publications profile in
influential journals, and to contribute to research related teaching.

Key Responsibilities
To work as a key member of a small research team to ensure successful
delivery of ERDU research projects. To carry out a range of duties to
support the project work, including implementation and liaising with
other researchers. To support the wider research of the faculty, by
promoting and developing research related to enterprise. To promote the
work of the Unit through the production of academic articles, project
reports, other publications, presentations etc. The post-holder will be

* Identify opportunities for research and related funding for projects
in liaison with the Director of ERDU
* Prepare proposals and detailed plans for research projects
* Manage all aspects of research projects including co-ordinating
budgets, team members and activities
* Develop robust and valid research designs, methodologies and methods
* Conduct methodical searches and prepare reviews of academic, policy
and business literature, contributing to policy and/or conceptual
development
* Conduct face-to-face interviews with research participants including
entrepreneurs and other stakeholders and prepare reports from these
interviews
* Ensure completion of survey questionnaires and entry into analytical
database/spreadsheet(s)
* Analyse data, with input to produce data analysis tables and other
outputs
* Produce draft and final versions of research reports
* Prepare and conduct presentations to client organisations
* Write articles based on research outcomes for publication in
peer-reviewed journals and at conferences
* Support the Director and ERDU team through agreed activities
contributing to the research culture

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
Flexibility to learn and apply new skills and concepts quickly is
essential, as is the ability to clearly communicate ideas.

Candidates should exhibit skills and capability to initiate, develop and
administer research projects. The candidate should be able to understand
the financial aspects of research and consultancy activities and be able
to deliver quality services to exacting timescales. Candidates should
demonstrate academic research and preferably teaching experience. They
should also possess current research interests in enterprise and
management with an ambition to develop their skills, knowledge and
career prospects further and to publish articles in recognised academic
journals. They should be actively engaged in continuous professional
development, e.g. conference attendance and participation in
professional organisations.

Candidates must possess a good first degree in a related discipline and
relevant postgraduate qualification. The postholder should also have, or
expect to complete in the near future, a higher research degree: at
least M.Phil, PhD, DBA or EdD. Expertise in at least one of the
following subjects will be required: enterprise development; regional
economic development; enterprise education; new venture creation; small
firm development and business growth; international entrepreneurship;
rural enterprise; social entrepreneurship; sustainable business
development.
