Applications are invited for the following 3-year fixed-term contract post at the Irish Centre for Social Gerontology, NUI, Galway. The successful candidate will work closely with the Director, focusing on identifying the scale, scope and determinants of social entrepreneurship among older people, and the role of information systems in supporting social entrepreneurship.

Applicants must possess a Phd in economics, business, information systems or social policy.  Experience in carrying out research on, and with, older people is desirable. A publications record in peer-reviewed journals is also desirable.  Applicants must have evidence of excellent communication and presentation skills (written and verbal) with high levels of initiative, commitment to deadlines and team interaction.

Salary is €38,623 -€43,880 per annum commensurate with experience.

Job Description

This position is located in the Irish Centre for Social Gerontology (ICSG). You will contribute towards the development of a research programme on social entrepreneurship among older people as part of ICSG’s national integration with the Social Sciences under PRTLI4 funding.  Social entrepreneurship is the process of using entrepreneurial and business skills to generate innovative approaches to social problems. Societal challenges and their increasingly global context require us to look for additional ways and tools to address those challenges.

Responsibilities:

•	Develop a research programme within ICSG on social entrepreneurship among older people in Ireland
•	Examine the role and potential of older people as social entrepreneurs
•	Document existing social entrepreneurship among older people 
•	Identify the costs and benefits of social engagement among older people for themselves and for society
•	Examine good practice in respect of social entrepreneurship in the ageing field
•	Develop policy and practice guidelines on  social entrepreneurship among older people 
•	Examine the role of information systems in supporting social entrepreneurship as part  of systematic collaboration with colleagues at the Centre for Innovation and Structural Change (CISC)
•	Collaborate with the senior researcher in social entrepreneurship (the latter is based in CISC) as appropriate
•	Impact on significant  national ageing issues, encompassing research, practice, policy, and public engagement
•	Develop collaboration and relationships with stakeholders in the ageing field.

Qualifications:

•	PhD in economics, business, information systems or social policy
•	Research experience in any or all of  the above fields
•	Knowledge of older people’s  issues
•	Knowledge of  entrepreneurship and management – both experience and theoretical frameworks 
•	Track record in building collaborations with diverse communities
•	Interest & ability to work within and across disciplines.
•	Facility with data, measurement and evaluation, using both quantitative and qualitative methodologies.
•	Collaborative work-style, strong team player; inclusiveness and flexibility; broad vision, accountability, and attention to detail
•	Excellent written and oral communication
