Dissertation Dilemmas
How to create, design, and publish your doctoral thesis

Call for Participation

As part of the new ifera conference design, we are proud to introduce the 1st annual pre-conference doctoral consortium. The consortium is a high-quality training event for doctorate students concerned with topics in family business studies in the early to middle stages of their Ph.D. thesis. The objective is to discuss and enhance the topic, design and quality of the researcher’s work.

Participants will:

• Learn how to develop top-quality theory in family business research
• Understand how to design a suitable and effective research methodology
• Discover the secrets to publishing and academic writing
• Discuss one-on-one with leading international family business experts
• Engage in stimulating conversations in an interactive learning atmosphere

The in-depth seminars are focused on specific topics relevant to supporting and assisting your doctoral studies through collective learning. Leading experts offer their knowledge and expertise with personal and interactive workshops, and are later available for casual discussions during the planned social event.

The track consists of one complete day of doctoral workshops followed by the three day 7th Annual ifera Conference 2007.

1. The first session focuses on theory building in the family business field. Professor Sanjay Goel, Ph.D. discusses the secrets of developing intriguing and relevant theory for your dissertation.

2. In the second session, Professor Kos Smyrnios, Ph.D. talks about the common method bias. Tips on how to overcome the challenges and take advantage of the opportunities are shared.

3. The third and last session introduces Professor Shaker Zahra, Ph.D., who will integrate theory development and methodological questions by taking you through the key and crucial steps in publishing your thesis and writing top academic articles for scholarly journals.

This gathering of Ph.D. students not only brings leading family business experts, but also provides the setting for you to exchange your ideas with other researchers sharing similar interests and experiences.

As this is a pre-conference consortium, work-in-progress, working papers and full papers will be discussed during the conference to follow. You are also invited to submit your abstract or full paper to the conference and for consideration of the Special Issue of the Family Business Review. Round-table discussions, poster presentations, and full presentations allow many opportunities for a first-hand look at current research and concepts being developed in the family business field today. For more information and the Call for Papers, please visit www.ifera2007.org.
