Faculty Positions in Technology Entrepreneurship or Innovation
Management
Closing date: 29th April 2006.

University College London (UCL) seeks to appoint committed, dynamic and
self-motivated faculty members to contribute to the rapid expansion of
its activities in the fields of technology entrepreneurship and
innovation management. As the centrepiece of a bold new initiative at
UCL, the Centre for Enterprise and the Management of Innovation (CEMI)
is the basis for a new academic department based in the Faculty of
Engineering Sciences and of relevance to the entire UCL community and
beyond. The department aims to be a world-class community of
scholars/teachers who focus on linking innovative research and teaching
to emerging technology companies. CEMI offers innovative new
undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes to prepare
scientists, engineers and physicians for leadership roles in the next
generation of technology intensive organisations.

The new department is the principal UCL partner in the growing strategic
alliance between UCL and the London Business School. The alliance
capitalises on research and educational synergies between these two
world-class institutions. We aim to recruit faculty members who have
fresh and radical ideas regarding research and teaching that link
cutting-edge science and engineering with entrepreneurial businesses to
deliver major societal benefits. We seek to appoint two colleagues at
the rank of Lecturer (i.e. Assistant Professor), although we will also
consider more senior candidates. Compensation will be competitive and
appropriate to academic rank. Research facilities and support are
excellent.

Applicants must demonstrate the ability to carry out internationally
recognised research and will be expected to seek external research
funding. We will consider applications from outstanding individuals with
proven (or promising) expertise and publication records in areas such
as: entrepreneurship, technology and innovation management or the
creation and management of high-growth business. We value applications
from discipline-based scholars able to apply theories and methods from,
for example, organisational behaviour, strategic management, industrial
engineering/operations management, psychology, sociology, economics or
political science.

Enterprise and Innovation at UCL

With more than 18,000 students, and 3,800 academic and research staff,
UCL is dedicated to research and teaching of the highest standard across
a broad spectrum of disciplines including social sciences, engineering,
physical sciences, law, medicine and humanities. Nobel Prizes have been
won by 18 faculty members or graduates of UCL. UCL's research strengths
were confirmed by independent review with 60 departments being rated "5"
or "5 star" - the highest categories - in the most recent UK Research
Assessment Exercise.

UCL has the highest number of professors of any university in the UK,
with more than 600 established and personal chairs, as well as the
highest number of female professors. UCL has made significant capital
commitments to CEMI and the academic department.

CEMI is currently housed in a two-year-old academic building. In summer
of 2008 the academic department and CEMI will move to a new building
that is under construction. The building will provide state-of-the-art
facilities for academic staff, researchers and
postgraduate/post-experience students.
